​Julie B. Booth presents the first (and hopefully annual)
2026 Thread Born Studio Retreat in Colonial Beach, Virginia

 

Spend three days of intensive artmaking in my studio space. Our theme is Colonial Beach Stories. Get a taste of why I love living here!
 

Below is the retreat schedule. Exact times will be published later.
 

Thursday, May 7: Optional day
Thrifting for materials. We’ll visit local thrift/opportunity/antique shops (including Gitie’s!) gathering materials for our art.
After thrifting, we’ll relax with wine (or non-alcoholic beverage), cheese and/or charcuterie at Circa 1892 in Colonial Beach.
Dinner on your own,


Friday, May 8:
Meet at Julie’s for welcome and orientation. 1100 Dwight Avenue
Morning Beachcombing and Taking Reference Photos: Visit to local beaches for beachcombing finds from the Potomac River that we can use in our artwork (stones, shells, river glass, driftwood)
Lunch provided at my home
Afternoon: Fabric painting in the studio including cheesecloth, ribbon, thrift finds etc.
Dinner: At Sunflower Restaurant (Thai and French)
After dinner: Second Friday Art Walk. See art at local venues. 6-9 PM

 

Saturday, May 9:
Morning: Designing our art pieces, laying out, starting to stitch. Individual consultations with Julie.
Lunch provided at my home
After lunch: Optional trip to The Colonial Beach Historical Society
Afternoon: Continue working on art pieces, Julie will demo techniques
Dinner on your own

 

Sunday, May 10:
Morning: Coffee/Tea, Pastries and Fruit at Julie’s
Continue working on your pieces. Gathering and stitching on the porch, weather permitting. Julie will continue consultations and demos.
Lunch provided at my home
Afternoon: Continue working. Ideas for display. Summing up our experience with a Show and Tell. Retreat ends at 3:30 PM.


Enrollment for this retreat is limited to 6 students. I will have a waiting list just in case. I will need at least 4 students to run the retreat.
 

Cost is: $375 per student which includes:
• 3 days of teaching
• 3 lunches
• Snacks and beverages Friday through Sunday
• Sunday pastries and fruit


Bring your own supplies or pay a $45 studio fee to have access to:
Fabrics: Including wool-blend or wool felt, tulle, cheesecloth, ribbon, cotton/linen fabrics
Beads, sequins, buttons
Pearl cotton and other threads (for use during the retreat)
Yarns, ribbon yarns
Fabric paints (for use during the retreat)
Needle packet of Crewel Embroidery, Sharp and Chenille needles
Access to tools

 

Additional items such as: Czech glass buttons and vintage brooches from Julie’s collection will be an additional cost.
 

Julie can provide more information about local hotel accommodations and restaurants or other attractions. Consider coming with a buddy to offset costs!
 

REGISTRATION BEGINS ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2026 AT 12:01 AM EASTERN USA TIME. Contact me at threadborn@gmail.com to register on or after that date.
 

Space is limited to 6 participants (there will be a waiting list).
 

Cost $375. Optional studio fee $45 (studio fee can be paid ahead or first day of the retreat).
 

Payment: PayPal or Venmo preferred. Personal check is fine but must arrive within one week to hold your spot.

CANCELLATIONS
Life is unpredictable, so below is my cancellation policy:

 

Cancellation on or before 4/30/26: You will receive a full refund.
 

Cancellation after 4/30/26: You will receive back half your tuition payment (unless someone on the waiting list can take your place, then you will receive a full refund once the wait lister has paid in full).
If no one can take your place in the retreat, the other half of your tuition payment will be reserved as a credit towards future Zoom classes with Julie.

 

If you pre-paid your studio fee, that will be refunded in full.
